Waiohika Estate is the the official Accommodation provider of The PAK'nSAVE Explorer. Bring your family and Friends to Gisborne and stay at Finish Line of The Explorer this Easter. The Venue will be hosting the prize giving and you will have the convenience to refresh each day for the weekend of events with all the other competitors and spectators.
Waiohika is a large country Estate based in Gisborne NZ that accommodates up to 14 people as a B'nB and Camping up to 200 + people.

| The PAK'nSAVE Explorer BIKE Course - Saturday 15th April 2017 | ||||||||||||||||||
The Explorer Bike - Total Distance 135.5 km
STAGE ONE - 53.5 kmStarting from Marina Park, corner Vogel Street & Ormond Road, proceed across the William Petty Bridge then continue on Rutene Road until you merge Left onto Wainui Road (SH35). Continue up the East Coast via Tatapouri, Turihaua, Pouawa and Whangara until you are directed by Traffic Management - turning competitors Right onto Wharf Road before Tolaga Bay, then proceed to the Tolaga Bay Wharf Car Park. ( Road Bike. )
STAGE TWO - 30 kmFrom the Tolaga Bay Wharf Car Park - via Wharf Road return back to Whangara Road (SH35) turning Right then continue on (approx.2km) taking a Left turn into Tauwhereparae Road. Continue via The Five Bridges until you reach the end of Stage 2 situated at Hokoroa Road Corner / Change Over. Event Director recommends the use of a Road bike to the bottom of the Tauwharepare Hill (approx. first 20 km - this point will be marshalled). From this point, climbing - continue on up to the Hokoroa Corner / Change Over (12.2 km). Note: Either a Cross Bike or Mountain Bike will be required due to extremely heavy gravel and in places significant pot holes on this road.
STAGE THREE - 52 kmFrom the Hokoroa Road Corner / Change Over - Cycling South West - at approx. 104.5 km Hokoroa Road becomes Waimata Valley Road - cycling on and descending Waimata Valley Hill where you will be marshalled into Waiohika Estate by taking their Second road Entrance to the Right at 135km and proceed directly 500 meters to the Finish. ( Either Mountain or Cross Bike required. ) |

Trail Run - Total Distance 20 km
STAGE ONE - 6.50 kmRunning from the Start Line situated on the Waipaoa River Bank near to the road end. Past the river mouth and along the beach heading back towards the city. Exiting the beach at the Navigation Beacon access. Turn Right onto Centennial Marine Parade 400 meters to complete Stage One.
STAGE TWO - 4.25 kmContinue along Centennial Marine Parade Drive and turn Right onto the Oneroa Walkway. Continue running the entire length of the walkway exiting it at Reads Quay. Turn Right onto the Gladstone Road Bridge. After crossing the bridge veer Right into The Esplanade (past the Tatapouri Fishing Club) Note: your next turn is Left into lower Crawford Road, completing Stage Two beside the Mudge Logger's Mural.
STAGE THREE - 6.25 kmLeaving Mudge Loggers Mural up onto Rakaiatane Road (Kaiti Beach Road) - turn Right continue towards the Cone of Vision. On instruction from a marshal you will cross the road. Taking the main trail up Kaiti Hill / Titirangi where you will exit this first part of Stage Three at the lower carpark on Queens Drive. Turn Right onto Queen's Drive keeping to the Righthand side of the road you will continue up and over the summit of Kaiti Hill / Titirangi continuing on down. Turn Left into Endcliffe Road, follow on down and turn Right onto Wainui Road (SH35). Keeping well to the Righthand side of the road continue on to the end of Stage Three situated at the Sponge Bay (SH35) intersection.
STAGE FOUR - 3.00 kmLeaving Sponge Bay (SH35) intersection run the full length of the Wainui Cycle/Walkway turning Right into Oneroa Road Left into Wairere Road finishing directly into the Lysnar Reserve which is situated opposite the Wainui Beach Surf Club beneath the Hamanatua Bridge, Wainui Beach, completing the event. |
