Melissa & Guy

McBREEN MARRINER

It was gumboots galore for the bridal party and guests at the wedding of Melissa McBreen and Guy Marriner. When Melissa woke on her wedding day to find it pouring with rain, she changed her reception at her parents’ farm at Te Karaka to a gumboot theme. Melissa, daughter of Mark and Kirsty McBreen (Gisborne) and Guy, son of Michael and Shirley Marriner (Somerset, England) were attended by Mark Cunningham (Auckland), Fred Eames (England), Jason Hart (England), Justin Marriner (England), Rod Johnston (England), Regan Watson (Wellington), Roanna Robinson (Gisborne), Kama Duncan (Gisborne), Rose Gavin (Gisborne) and Laura Daly (Auckland) and eight-year-old flower girl Jaime De Costa. The couple live at Karaka in Auckland, where Melissa is an accountant and Mark a huntsman. Photograph by Diana Dobson/The Black Balloon

DIMERY OSTLER

Aimee Dimery, daughter of Steve and Anne (Gisborne) married Stephen Ostler, son of Charles and Judy (UK) in a beautiful service at St Mary's Star of the Sea. The couple were attended by Steve's best  friends Callum Fester, William Millard and Andrew Hewson, who came out from the UK for the wedding, along with Aimee's sisters Karyn Sadler and Nicola Dimery, with her best friend Sara Lincoln, who are all from Gisborne. Steve met school teacher Aimee while working in Wellington as an accountant for the past five years. JEX-BLAKE – CRON

Libby, the daughter of Peter and Sylvia Jex Blake (Gisborne) and Peter, the son of Stewart and Sally Cron (Christchurch), were attended by Belinda Girling-Butcher, Miranda Harrison, Rebecca Simmons, Mark Sutton, Perrin Jones and Philip Hawkes. The couple say there was so much that was special about their day, especially having so many of their friends and family on hand to help celebrate.  Amanda & Andrew

Amanda, daughter of Brent and Teresa Trethewey, and Andrew, son of Greg and Beth Macdonald were married at Matawhero Historic Church on March 26, 2011.

A special highlight of the day for Amanda was that her father walked her down the aisle then turned around and married the couple. Thereception was held at the Bushmere Arms. Amanda and Andrew were attended by bestman Ryan Trethewey (brother of Amanda), matron of honour Tracy Clayton, and groomsman Jotham Macdonald (brother of Andrew). The dresses were made by Brides of Gisborne and flowers by Country Garden Flowers.

Kylee Grogan and Jonathan Poole

Kylee Grogan and Jonathan Poole

Three years in the planning and the long wait were all worth it when Kylee Grogan and Jonathan Poole finally tied the knot.

Kylee, the daughter of Philip and Vicki Grogan, and Jonathan, son of Janet Craigie, say being able to enjoy their day with family and friends was perfect. Sarah Clarke and Blake Charteris

Sarah Clarke and Blake Charteris

Helicopters, mates, fun and dancing till the wee hours all made the wedding of Sarah Clarke and Blake Charteris a day to remember.

Sarah, daughter of Barbara and John Clarke, and Blake, son of Sam and Jilly Charteris, were married at Holy Trinity Church followed by a marquee reception at the Clarke's farm. The wedding party included Sarah's sister Rachael Spriggs, who was matron of honour, Ben Tietjen, Kate Samson, Tim Gardner, Hadley Charteris and Emma Tietjen. Sarah's brother Matthew came home from London to be the MC. Sarah and Blake first met on a family holiday to the Bay of Islands when they were just 14. The couple now live in Taupo, where they have been for almost two years since returning from a year living in Ireland. Sarah works in Youth Community Development for Central Plateau REAP and is a part-time ballet teacher while Blake, a helicopter pilot, is about to start a contract flying for tuna boats off American Samoa.
For Blake, the highlight of the day was marrying his best friend and flying 'his boys' to the church and his new wife into the reception. For Sarah, it was finally being able to call Blake her husband, spending the morning getting ready at home with 'the girls' and watching their family and friends from different parts of their lives meeting one another, having fun, and dancing until the wee small hours.    Photography by Diana Dobson/The Black Balloon

Julie Egan and Dave Hedley

Julie Egan and Dave Hedley

A cyclone couldn't dampen spirits at the wedding of Julie Egan and Dave Hedley.

The couple – Julie the daughter of Mark and Judy, and Dave, the son of George and Annie – travelled from their home in the Isle of Man, with a rather large contingent of UK-based family and friends. They met when nurse Julie was sent from London to work at the TT motorbike races. Dave, a doctor, was sent to the same event. They have lived on the Isle of Man since 2001. They were wed at St Luke's Church, Waerenga-A-Hika by the Rev Joan Edmundson before heading to Julie's aunt and uncle's boutique winery at Bushmere Estate for the reception. The cyclone continued but so did “the most incredible wine and food”. Julie has no qualms in calling it the perfect day. The couple have returned to the Isle of Man – where they live with their Samoyed dog Gizzy – where Dave is a doctor and forensic surgeon and Julie is a nurse practitioner and part-time caterer. They continue to buy lotto tickets in the hope of winning and bringing the extended Egan family over to visit. Their UK celebration – a Manx wedding – will be in June but they admit to being a little nervous at having to organise the whole thing themselves this time.    Photograph by Diana Dobson/The Black Balloon
