Jan... is affectionately known to young and those who are senior of years, as Mrs. Poppy:

'Mrs. Poppy'...  specializes in children’s books and educational books, teachers’ resources and so on, and goes out to schools having rung them first to ask what their book and resource needs might be.
That way she can take the kinds of things that interest them which makes their looking time much faster than if browsing a general school book rep’s whole range or going to a bookshop.  Teachers do like to SEE the books as print, layout and so on are vital to capturing children’s interest.

Jan... Mrs.Poppy will also sell from home by appointment.

Jan has recommenced her previous home-based job of tutoring Dyslexic students.

She spent many years doing this before coming to Gisborne, trained and taught way back in the UK at the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre, then did more training with SPELD in Western Australia and more again in Palmerston North before coming to Gisborne.

Jan used to do this as her full time job in those places.... she will be calling this:

Mrs Poppy’s Tutoring Service   ...as kids in Gisborne city know her as Mrs Poppy from her Saturday morning story-reading times!

Jan currently has one Dyslexic boy and a number of other people who have expressed interest.  She also worked as a literacy and numeracy tutor in tertiary institutions where young adults are endeavouring to get certificates in a trade or industry but have very poor basic skills.  She has an ESOL teaching certificate too – teaching English to speakers of other languages.
